In 2006, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital maintained 1460 patient beds, admitted more than 42,000 inpatients, and treated more than 1,500,000 outpatients and emergency cases. The hospital currently employees a staff of 2,486, including 2,022 medical staff members, 257 senior physicians, 198 attending doctors, 250 resident doctors, a nursing staff of 1,042, and 130 professors and associate professors.
The hospital manages 2 clinical colleges, 32 clinical departments, 32 medical technical sections, and 21 special research sections and laboratories. Noted advanced-level departments of the hospital include: anesthesiology, cardiology, cardio-thoracic, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, hepatobiliary surgery, immunology, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, orthopedics, pathology, respiratory, spine surgery, and urology.
The hospital provides advanced equipment for patient healthcare services, including PET, ECT, MRI, DSA, whole-body CT 1250mA X-ray, EEG Mapping, electronic gastroscope, color Doppler ultrasonic cardio-dynami apparatus, central monitoring devices, automatic biochemical analyzers, and multiple-function color Doppler diagnostic apparatus.
Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital is the clinical teaching base for Nanjing University Medical School as well as for other area medical universities and nursing schools. The hospital also serves as the appointed training base for the Public Health Bureau of Nanjing Municipality and the Provincial Public Health Bureau of Jiangsu Province. In addition, the hospital serves as an advanced study base organized by the Chinese Ministry of Public Health and the Public Health Bureau of Jiangsu Province.

In 2008, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital will dedicate the spacious, state-of-the-art medical tower and research centers currently under construction. The new Medical Tower will provide an additional 1,600 certified beds and major emphasis will be placed on advanced treatment programs, medical research, international collaborations and exchange initiatives, and issues of global healthcare.
